Bi Amplification
1. WHAT IS BI-AMPLIFICATION?
Bi-amplification is a combination of 2 amplifiers, enabling one amplifier to be coupled with a pair of speakers. The speakers can then focus on specific frequencies (bass, midrange or treble: this is known as horizontal bi-amplification) or on specific channels (Left or Right: this is known as vertical bi-amplification).
This bi-amplification is possible and achievable on the following Expert or Expert Pro models:
Expert: LE 400, LE 800, LE 90 (Original d'Atelier), 2xD-premier
Expert Pro: 440 Pro,1000 Pro
2. HOW DO I SET IT UP WITH EXPERT OR EXPERT PRO?
To set up bi-amplification, you will need to configure your installation in a specific way. Please follow the instructions below:
- Connect to your Devialet.com web profile HERE.
- Then go to your profile and select "Expert Configuration".
- Then click on "Configure a new settings file" to access the online configurator.
- Select "Go to advanced configurator".
- Select the Expert model you wish to configure (this must be an LE 400, 440 Pro, LE 800, 1000 Pro or ODA model).
- Move the cursor to "STEREO", above each Expert.
- Then go to the settings for the first amp.
- A pop-up window will appear. Uncheck the "Linked" option and configure your bi-amplification. Here are the two most common options (vertical or horizontal bi-amplification):
If you want the speakers connected to the top amp (Master) to play only the left or right sounds from your amp, select the corresponding option (Left or Right) for each of the connected speakers.
To ensure that the speakers connected to the top amp (Master) only play specific frequencies, select the corresponding option (High Pass or Low Pass) in the "Filtering" parameters for each of the connected speakers.
Perform the same operation on the second amplifier.

- Questions & Answers
What is a preout ?
Devialet amplifiers are mainly equipped with inputs, which means that you can connect third-party devices, such as a CD player for example, and thus amplify the received signal and play it on the speakers.
There are instances where it may be necessary to route the audio signal from the amplifier, such as when you want to listen to music using headphones, for example. We call it pre-amplified output or PreOut and this is configurable via the Devialet configurator.
Headset or preamplified output for headset
- Go into Devialet configurator and select the model of Expert, Dpremier or Expert Pro you want to configure
- Select the Digital 1 and choose "Pre-amplified output (Stereo)".
- Disable the option "Mute applies to this output" on the bottom part of the page.
- An output will then appears in your configuration
- Select the Remote setting on top right area ("Remote Settings") and assigned the options "Mute" and "Pre amplified output" to the two configurable buttons.
- Download the configuration completed and copy/paste it into the SD card
- Wire your headset to the newly set Pre-amplified outputs on the amplifier.
- Use an adaptor female Jack to RCA stereo male for connecting the headset to the amplifier.
- If the headset doesn't have an adapted jack size, then use another adapter
- Action to get sounds on the headset only
- Press the assigned button to the action "Preamplified output" which will output the sound to the headset
- Press the assigned button to "Mute" to stop the sound to be play via the speakers

- Wire your subwoofer to the Sub output on the amplifier.
- Press the "Subwoofer" button from the remote to activate the output.
Questions & Answers
- Is it possible to connect a stereo "Subwoofer"?
Of course it's possible, you can follow above instructions, but the output to be set will be "Pre Amplified (Stereo)"
- Can I filter the subwoofer's signalLe signal vers un subwoofer peut etre filtré ?
There are some setting to be use on the configurator
-
Full range - it means that the whole frequences will be played by the subwoofer
- High pass - the signal will remove the bass frequences selected (based on the settings). This setting can be used for the small speakers which are not able to play very low frequences.
- Low pass - The signal will removed the low frequencies (based on the settings)
- After connecting the headphones via a wired connection, you may encounter a situation where there is no sound coming through them.
Make sure that the remote is properly set with an assigned button ("Pre amplified Output"), and switch on/off the button
- Can I use SAM on my headset?
SAM is primarily designed for use with regular passive speakers and may not be compatible with headphones or headsets. The technology is optimized for enhancing the performance of passive speakers, and it may not function when connected to headphones due to differences in audio delivery and processing.

1.b Devialet 200 / 220 Pro/250 / 250 Pro - 210 Pro / 400 / 800 / 440 Pro / 1000 Pro
These Devialet amplifiers come with various input options. Each of them includes a dedicated phono input (Phono 2) that can be transformed into a Line input. Additionally, there's a dedicated line input (Line 1) that can be converted into either a Phono input or two mono digital (SPDIF) inputs.
2. What is RAM®?
Record Active Matching (RAM menu)
It dynamically adjusts the phono stage parameters to match the characteristics of your turntable, which encompass EQ curves, mix mode, cartridge sensitivity, and loading parameters in real-time.Meaning that, while you listen to the music, you can change the settings until you get the exact sound you can expect.
In order to activate RAM, go to the Configurator, select the remote, and assign a button for RAM.
Options on RAM® Menu
Once your amplifier is switched on, go into the Phono source, then activate the RAM® menu with the remote button assigned to this menu. These changes will be loaded after 2 seconds of inactivity. 3. Questions & Answers
Can I set my phono parameters via the Configurator?
You have the option to configure your cartridge using the configurator if you have information about its type, recommended maximum level, and loading specifications (please consult the cartridge's manufacturer for this data). The Configurator includes a list of pre-registered cartridge models, but currently, we do not have plans to add more due to the RAM feature.
DOES DEVIALET RECOMMEND THE RAM® MENU OR THE CONFIGURATOR TO SET PARAMETERS?
We recommend using RAM because you can make changes on the fly and make adjustments while you are listening to music.
I DID NOT ASSIGN A BUTTON FOR THE RAM® MENU ON MY REMOTE, HOW CAN I ACCESS IT?
You can access the RAM menu directly without having a dedicated button. To adjust parameters on the Phono stage please follow the steps below:
- Go into your Phono source
- Press the "Tone" button (or the button to access the "Balance & Tone" options)
- Within this menu, you will find the RAM® Menu (To browse, you can press the tone button to move from one page to another in this menu).
- Use the wheel to change parameters in the RAM® Menu.
WHERE CAN I FIND ALL SPECIFICATIONS FOR MY CARTRIDGE?
You can find this information in the instruction manual for your cartridge. If you no longer have the manual, you can still contact the manufacturer or the seller of your cartridge to obtain these details. Additionally, there are existing databases with all specifications for cartridges available online such as what can be found at VINYL ENGINE.
Recommendations made by the manufacturer can still be adjusted "on the fly" via the RAM® menu. Once you set it up, all parameters will be locked into your amplifier and will be applied anytime you switch to this source.
Even after fine tuning my parameters, the cartridge sound is not as expected
First, check that the cartridge is in a good condition.
Then check that it is correctly wired to the arm of the turntable.
Lastly, also check whether you need to connect the grounding or not. Turntables are often "over-amplified" to ensure optimal vinyl playback conditions, which means that any surrounding voltage could potentially be audible and negatively impact your listening experience during a session.
Another useful test to consider is connecting another turntable to the amplifier and determining whether only one of them produces undesirable sound quality. This can help isolate the source of any potential issues.
I hear a noise on the Phono input - like a "gun noise"
As a reminder, the phono input is highly sensitive to environmental noise. To ensure a trouble-free experience, please double-check that the cabling between both the Expert and the turntable is correctly configured and secured.
As part of your configuration, make sure to disable Wi-Fi anytime you use the Phono input. You can find this setting within the input options.
Finally, also verify whether you need to connect the earth ground or not. Turntables are typically "over-amplified" to ensure optimal vinyl listening conditions, which means that any surrounding voltage could become audible and potentially have a negative impact on your listening session.

Building an Expert System
You can build systems with two Devialet, as mono-blocks for instance, or combine up to 10 Devialet Expert or Expert Pro in a multi-amplification setup. In such cases, one unit is set as the master – the one receiving the input signals – while the others become the so-called slaves.
All devices must be interconnected (daisy chained): the master’s digital output (DOUT) must be connected to a digital input on the slave. The online configuration tool shows you the connection schematic for a defined multi-amp custom configuration.
Each Devialet Expert or Expert Pro in a multi-unit set up must have a dedicated configuration, with its role and expected behavior specified in the chain. The online configuration-tool currently allows you to prepare or edit the necessary configuration files for a two Devialet Expert or Expert Pro set-up. Note that, each time you modify the master configuration, you must update the slave configuration as well. For setups involving more than two Devialet Expert or Expert Pro, please submit a new request to our Customer Care team, who will provide you with the custom configuration files.
Dual Mono
If you possess large or incredibly demanding speakers, we highly recommend the DUAL MONO CONFIGURATION. This requires one amplifier per channel. It doubles the available power – up-to 400w Rms per channel on 8Ω for a 0.00025% THDM - and gives you even quieter operation.
Bi-Amplication or Multi-Amplification
If your loudspeakers allow a direct and separate access to the bass/medium and treble speakers, you may want to build a Bi-Amp configuration (or multi-amplification depending on the way your speakers are made and your intention) with a master Devialet Expert or Expert Pro driving the left channel speakers and a slave Devialet Expert or Expert Pro driving the right channel speakers. This mode also offers the ability to actively filter the signal sent to the bass and treble speakers. This means that an amplifier’s left speaker output will go through an internal low-pass filter (for the bass loudspeaker) and the right speaker output through a high-pass filter (for the treble loudspeaker). The filter’s cut-off frequency as well as the steepness of the slope - filter order - can be custom defined.
Room amplification
In this configuration, each room is fitted with a Devialet Expert or Expert Pro system. Usually the one closest to the music-source is set as master; the other(s) is (are) slave(s). The same music source is played on all Devialet Expert systems in the chain. As this usually implies long cable chaining, we highly recommend chaining on the slave’s AES/EBU input.
-
Using a headset with Expert
If your Devialet product is equipped with it, you may use the “Pre-Out” output to connect headphones either directly - via a hybrid RCA-to-Headphone jack cable - or through an external headphone amplifier (for high impedance headphones for example).
Remember that you need to activate this output using the online CONFIGURATION TOOL, assign a remote control key to turn the Pre-Out "On" or "Off", and define the correct output level depending on the type of headphones you use.
If you connect the headphones straight to the Expert system, leave the volume control on "Variable". If you plan to use an external headphone-amplifier, then opt for the "Fixed" volume control.
It is also possible to connect headphones if you have a multi-amplifier configuration. In this case, you need to daisy chain the amplifiers using the DOUT on the master and the AES/EBU input on the slave system in order to free the Pre-Out connectors on the slave system for the headphones.

2. Streaming with Devialet AIR
On Mac or Windows, you have the possibility to set your Expert as the audio output. This means that sounds from your computer will be sent to your Devialet amplifier.
Devialet AIR does not open as a window on your screen. Instead, it simply adds a logo to your status bar. Enabling this feature involves two steps:
- Pairing your computer to your amplifier using Devialet AIR
- Selecting the amplifier as the audio output.
For this to work, it is important that the computer and the amplifier are connected to the same network via WiFi or Ethernet.
3. Music on your phone
Streaming from a phone to the Expert amplifier is not possible. My Devialet Remote is an app available on the App Store which enables one to send music to the Expert, but only if the music is stored locally on your phone.
Spotify, Tidal, Youtube, etc... are not compatible with Expert as a source when used on your phone.
4. Other solutions
Certain devices offer a more flexible streaming capability to connect with your Expert.
Upgrade your Expert to Expert PRO: You may send us your Expert to upgrade it to Expert Pro. This will enable several streaming solutions on your Expert (airplay, Spotify connect, Roon RAAT) and renew its 2 years manufacturer warranty). Contact the Devialet customer care team for further details and pricing.
Other Possible (Less Than Ideal) Workarounds:
Airport Express by Apple: By connecting your Airport Express to your Devialet amplifier through an optical cable, you'll have the capability to stream music from a Mac or iPhone using Airplay to the Airport Express. As the airport is plugged into your amplifier, it is your Devialet amplifier that will produce the sound. You can use this solution to stream any content via airplay.
Chromecast/Sonos Connect: If you connect one of these devices to your Devialet Amplifier using an optical cable, you'll have the ability to transmit music from a computer or phone using the corresponding app for the device. Since the "bridge" device is connected to your amplifier, it is the bridge that will act as the source to your amplifier You can use this solution to stream any content from your phone or computer.
Devialet products offer full High Resolution playback (24bits/192kHz) capabilities on all digital inputs but the optical ones (which will stream in 24bits/96kHz).
Devialet AIR input is the best way to wirelessly play High Resolution files stored on a computer. There are also possible alternatives such as Roon.
Expert Pro natively supports the UPnP protocol, which will allow you to play High Resolution files wirelessly. You will need to find the right 3rd party application for using this protocol.
Recommendations for wired solution:
- The AES /EBU input whenever possible is ideal, as it is the most insensitive to long cables or electro-magnetic disturbances. It is important to use a genuine 110Ω digital cable.
- The RCA inputs are of similar quality but they tend to be more sensitive to the source's output level. We recommend using a genuine 75Ω coaxial digital cable in this case.
