Optical Direct on Phantom - Custom installations

The optical direct mode

Optical direct is a mode of use for Phantom I that allows you to get the lowest latency possible for Phantom’s SPDIF (TOSLINK) input, reducing the usual 60 milliseconds delay to 2 milliseconds.

This mode is mainly used for live performances (concerts, DJ sets…), and for custom surround setups where special hardware is required.

Notes : This mode bypasses ALL Wi-Fi and Bluetooth functionalities, meaning you would only be able to use the physical input of the speaker once this mode is enabled. If you wish to return to streaming, you would have to reset the speaker in order to take it out of optical direct.

What products is the Optical Direct mode available on ?

This mode is only available on Phantom I models (108dB, 103dB, and the no longer produced Silver model) that are updated on at least the version 2.11 of the firmware.

How to set up Phantom in Optical Direct

Standard Procedure :

  1. Put the Phantom in setup mode : press quickly 3 times on the back button in less than a second (The Phantom should play 3 clacks after the third push)
  2. Do not wire the Phantom in Ethernet to anything.
  3. Make 5 presses on the back button in the span of 2-3 seconds (neither faster nor slower than that rhythm).
  4. The Phantom will emit a sound design similar to the “successful BT pairing” one.

Notes : The volume is limited to 70%. The Phantom mix will be mono, no native stereo. Stereo can only be achieved if the signal is split by an intermediary device and both Phantoms are wired individually.
