You can build systems with two Devialet, as mono-blocks for instance, or combine up to 10 Devialet in a multi-amplication set up. In such cases, one unit is set as the master – the one receiving the input signals – the other(s) become(s) the so-called slave(s).
All devices must be interconnected (daisy chaining): the master’s digital output (DOUT) must be connected to a digital input on the slave. The online configuration tool shows you the connection schematic for a defined multi-amp custom configuration.
Each Devialet in a multi-unit set up must have a dedicated configuration, specifying its role and expected behavior in the chain. The online configuration-tool currently allows you to prepare or edit the necessary configuration files for a two Devialet set-up. Note that each time you modify the master configuration, you must update the slave configuration as well. For set-ups involving more than two Devialet, please submit a new request to our customer care team, we will provide you with the custom configuration files.
If you possess large or very demanding speakers, we highly recommend the Dual Mono configuration. This requires one amplifier per channel. It doubles the available power – up-to 400Wrms per channel on 8Ω for a 0.00025% THDM - and gives you even quieter operation.
Bi-Amplication or Multi-Amplification
If your loudspeakers allow a direct and separate access to the bass / medium and treble speakers, you may want to build a Bi-Amp configuration (or multi amplification depending on the way your speakers are made and your intention) with a master Devialet driving the left channel speakers and a slave Devialet driving the right channel speakers. This mode also offers the possibility to actively filter the signal sent to the bass and treble speakers. This means that an amplifier’s left speaker output will go through an internal low-pass filter (for the bass loudspeaker) and the right speaker output through a high-pass filter (for the treble loudspeaker). The filter’s cut-off frequency as well as the steepness of the slope - filter order - can be custom defined.
In this configuration, each room is fitted with a Devialet. Usually the one closest to the music-source is set as master; the other(s) is (are) slave(s). The same music program is played on all Devialet in the chain. As this usually implies long chaining cables, we highly recommend chaining on the slave’s AES/EBU input.
